Diamond Head Bike & Hike
The hike at Diamond Head Crater is moderate, paved, and features 170 stairs. It offers stunning sights of Downtown Honolulu and West Oahu, but the ride to get there can be just as exciting. Bike along the coast past the Honolulu Zoo, Kapiolani Park, the Waikiki Aquarium, the War Memorial, and the Diamond Head Lookout, down Kahala Avenue, and back up to the entrance of the Diamond Head State Monument.
DIRECTIONS:
- Head towards the ocean on Kapahulu Ave.
- Cross the street and turn left at Kalakaua Ave.
- (Ride the bike path along the ocean, behind the Waikiki Aquarium, being mindful of pedestrians)
- When you reach the War Memorial, turn right out of the parking lot and continue onto the bike lane on Kalakaua Ave as it parallels Kapiolani Park
- After the water fountain, continue straight onto Coconut Ave.
- (Enjoy the historic homes in this beautiful alcove on Coconut Ave.)
- Turn right onto Diamond Head Road
- (This hill is a thigh burner, but the views of the Diamond Head Lighthouse overlooking local surfers in turquoise waters is well worth it!)
- Continue along Diamond Head Road around the crater to the entrance of the Diamond Head State Monument.
- (Park on the inside of the crater while you’re hiking, and when you’re done, head down Monsarrat Ave. for a healthy lunch at any of the local eateries)
- Turn right onto Paki Ave.
- Turn left onto Kapahulu Ave. at the fire station
- Turn right onto Lemon Road to return to the shop.
