Maximize Your Ride’s Lifespan With Long Term Care
As a proud owner of a Genuine or NIU Electric vehicle, follow these tips to keep your ride exceptional throughout its lifespan

Breaking In Your New Genuine Vehicle
Properly breaking in a Genuine moped or motor scooter helps establish a solid foundation for long-term use, maximizes fuel efficiency, and ultimately contributes to a more enjoyable and trouble-free riding experience. During the break-in period, which typically covers the first few hundred miles of riding, the engine’s components gradually wear in and adapt to each other. This process allows for a smoother and more efficient operation, reduces friction, and prevents premature wear and tear. By following the manufacturer’s recommended break-in guidelines, riders not only promote the reliability of their vehicles but also enhance safety. Please refer to the Genuine owner’s manual for more information.
Run-in guidelines to maximize the life of your engine.
- 0 – 100 miles Avoid opening the throttle beyond 1/2 throttle. Cool down the engine for 10 minutes after every 30 minutes of operation. Do not operate at a constant speed; change your speed regularly.
- 100 – 300 miles Avoid opening the throttle beyond 1/2 throttle for extended periods. Do not open the throttle beyond 3/4 throttle.
- 300 – 500 miles Avoid opening the throttle beyond 3/4 throttle. Over 500 miles Avoid long periods of wide-open throttle operation.
Expected Maintenance Intervals
For new vehicles, the first service is recommended at 500 miles or after 1 month of use, whichever comes first. Subsequently, regular maintenance is advised every 3 months or every 1800 miles after the first service. During this early check, we’ll ensure that your vehicle is properly being broken into and we’ll identify any initial wear and tear.
For used vehicles, the first service is recommended after 3 months of use or 1800 miles, whichever comes first, and every 3 months after that. These intervals are designed to address various aspects of maintenance, such as oil changes, tire checks, brake inspections, and other critical components’ assessments.
Proper Vehicle Security
The best way to lock mopeds and motor scooters are through the rear tire with a lock and chain. You are then recommended to attach the chain to a tall pole or bike rack. Regularly covering your vehicle with a scooter cover also deters theft. Please consider covering your vehicle, especially if you’re leaving your ride parked for weeks at a time.
Pro Tip: Pick up an apple air tag and we can help hide in on your next service appointment.
Remember, registration and safety checks must be renewed yearly. It is important to renew on time to prevent having to do an extra safety check.
Breaking In Your New NIU Vehicle
None needed! Electric vehicles are known for their unique engineering that eliminates the need for traditional break-in procedures. Unlike internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs do not rely on complex, moving parts, such as pistons and gears, that require gradual wear and adaptation. Instead, electric motors deliver power smoothly and efficiently from the moment they are first used. The absence of a combustion engine also means there’s no need for oil changes or intricate mechanical adjustments during a break-in period.
Expected Maintenance Intervals
All NIU Electric vehicles offer instant, reliable performance right from the start, making them a convenient and low-maintenance choice for environmentally conscious drivers. Customers need only ensure the battery remains charged and periodically inspect their tire pressure, which should ideally hover around 30 psi.
Proper Vehicle Security
Locking up electric mopeds and motor scooters differs slightly from gas since the rear wheel is solid. The best way we have found is locking through the rear swing arm with a lock and chain to a tall pole or bike rack.
E-bikes should be locked through the frame and rear wheel then attached to a tall pole or bike rack with either a U-lock or lock and chain.
Kick scooters can be locked through the frame near the steering stem with a U-lock

Registration and safety checks are required for electric mopeds and motor scooters and cost the same as gas mopeds. E-bikes are registered once and do not need to be renewed. Kick scooters do not need to be registered.
