10 Best Habits For Maintaining your Genuine Moped

The Genuine Scooters are the highest quality mopeds in Hawaii. Give them the right attention and they’ll last you a long time. Here’s a list of the top 10 best things to keep your Genuine Buddy or Roughhouse running smoothly for as long as it can.

  1. Use JASO FD approved Oil:
One of the first things you’ll need to do to maintain your moped is refill the oil levels. JASO FD rated oil creates the most lubrication, the least amount of internal engine friction and fewer smoke emissions. JASO FD’s high detergency prevents carbon from building up inside your exhaust port and exhaust pipe, which will keep your engine performing optimally.  Plus, Genuine requires the use of two-stroke oil with a JASO FD rating to keep your warranty valid.
  2. Use Ethanol Free Gas:
Overtime, ethanol will start to absorb water and can even break down the plastic tanks, rubber gaskets and hoses. Ethanol itself breaks down over time, too. It takes as little as 30 days for ethanol gas to go bad, while ethanol free gas can last up to 6 months! The more pure the gasoline and the fewer additives, the better the performance.
  3. Follow your Break-in Procedures:
You’ll need to take things slower and take normal breaks when your engine is brand new. The exact break-in procedures are in each of the manuals, but don’t expect to fully throttle your vehicle until after 600 miles.
  4. Never full throttle for extended periods of time:
Full throttling your moped is comparable to putting the pedal to the floor on your car. You rarely do it to your car, and when you do, it doesn’t sound right. That’s because no stock motors are built to run at their maximum RPMs for a long time. These 49 cc motors only have so much power and “full throttling” the vehicle is like sprinting to a runner. They can only go so far before overheating.
  5. Always warm up your engine:
Let your ride idle for a bit and take it slow before opening it up.
  6. Stay on top of your scheduled maintenance:
The first service is required after the first 200 miles and every 1800 miles after that.
  7. Never engine brake:
The engine components only get lubrication when accelerating, so remember to regularly “rev” the throttle to keep your motor from seizing. This is especially important to remember when you’re riding down long hills or declines.
  8. Let the moped cool down, especially after a long ride.
  9. Keep your Tire pressure at 30 psi:
Performance and tire life will be negatively affected if your tires aren’t topped off at the recommended pounds per square inch reading.
  10. Respect your Ride:
Genuine has done a great job producing the best mopeds available. If you give your ride plenty of TLC, it will last longer, perform better, and ultimately save you from unnecessary costly repairs.
